Interactive Telephony: listen to the most current news headlines on your phone

15Oct07

I just completed the initial version of my mid-term project for redial: Interactive Telephony. It is an a News aggregator for your phone. Anyone can now call the ITP asterisk server and have the current international news, U.S. financial market news and sports headlines read to them over the phone, 212.796.0729 ex 226. I’m still working on improving the selection of options with more preference input, such as, “press one for movies near Union Square” , etc…

The code is a php script that parses data from RSS feeds from Yahoo and New York Times, which pulls out only the headlines. It them puts each into an array and does text2speech, festival, conversion on each and saves them as a .wav file. These get updated each time someone calls in. I find the default voice a bit much to pay attention to for an extended period of time.

Asterisk dial plan here.

Php -> AGI example code here.
