Our interactive jitter based video installation will be shown at the ITP winter show – Dec 16 and 17th. Having set it up twice now for the Live Image Processing show and the Video art show – i can soundly say that i am nervous. In both cases, and especially on the crowded 4th floor where projects abound with screens and lights flashing, keeping a constant background color has been incredibly difficult. The patch works by taking a snap shot of the background and comparing every successive pixel value from incoming frames to the snap shot, thereby tracking change frame to frame. Thus the change is only people walking by. The people captured in the live video input, ie, changing pixels have pre-recorded video of first hand footage from Karbala, Iraq, inserted into their silhouette.
